NDC ( NATIONAL DATA CENTER ) Pune as the name suggests the work of this IMD department is to secure, rescue, save, backup important data and make this data available to the world Digitally

Weather Forecasting Department ( WF ) in IMD is concerned with Analysed Weather Charts, where all the charts are manually marked minutely with everydays events and weather parameters, this Research and Scientific Data which is collected on Daily basis and recorded in various RC's and RMC's across the Country is collected and stored at NDC

Data Rescue Scheme is a very intelligent system under which various Projects are being carried/executed by NDC one such Project was "DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY OF ANALYSED WEATHER CHARTS", the main objective of this programme is with the perspective to preserve the old Weather Charts / Climate Records / Data available in manuscripts / paper forms as initiated by WMO since 2000

Since data was stored in the form of A0 size charts and bounded in big books which were stored in haphazard manner and some we even decaying, dusty, getting wet in rainy season, these data was being lost at very fast phase, so NDC took a decision to Digitally photograph the charts and make these analysed weather charts available to the world using the modern day technology
